My good and bad year

This has been for me a good year at personal facets, but a not very good year at academic aspects, although it hasn`t been horrible too.

My academic problems started when in the first semester I could take just three signatures and one elective because, due to particular conditions of my situation in this career, I had none some prerequisite signatures. Then, at the end of first semester, I had a good average in the most of my curses, but I failed the elective.

In the second semester it happened something similar with the curses taking, and still I´m taking few signatures, I fell I have little time ant I´m having bad calcifications. I have taken Gender Sociology elective class, and I´m very interesting in this area, but it´s turning some difficult because of the kind of evaluations. It has a modality of assignments that complicates me.

Other aspects of my life have been good this year. I have been in the Chorus of Science Faculty since March and I have met a lot of great people and had the opportunity to know better some people I know since before. I have had a lot of funny moments with them.

I have had the chance to get closer to new people in my career too and in my own generation. Now I´m friend of some people with which I didn´t have too much relation last year.

On the other hand, know I´m in a little collective with some friends, and it let me do some political work and get organized with some people that, although doesn´t think exactly like me, we have some ideas in common.

The most fun beach in Chile!

In February of 2013 I went with my friend Rene and three of his friends to Pichilemu. It was very great because, besides going with a dear friend and nice people, there are a lot funny things to do in that town. When we arrived we rented a lodge and stayed there for five days. During that time we went to the beach and played paddles; we eat delicious empanadas (a typical southamerican food made with a pasta filled with cheese); we played paintball; went to the forest at night and made a bonfire; and we did many other activities. One day I went to the beach with Rene to try to surf, but I never could sit down in the table without fall. Anyway, it was very funny trying to do it, and I got very tired. During those holidays we eat a lot of nice food. Rene likes cooking, so some days he cooked this food and it was great. All this is why it was my best holidays.

Animals

I´m animalist, therefore my position in this topic is being against specism. It doesn´t mean I love animals, we can´t say I´m an animal lover. They like me, but I don´t feel a special love to them, I just feel the same likeability to them as any most of people.

I think animal life shouldn´t be a human propriety, so we have not the right to use them for shows or as raw material; we have not the right to lock them or damage them for our earnings. Although they are not rational beings, they have a subjectivity regarding they can feel (scare, commitment with their community, love for their offspring, pain, instincts, etc.), so I think it´s unacceptable use them for medical researchers, kip them at zoos, etc.

However, animal liberation is far away of real social conditions, and sometimes it´s necessary we adapt to this conditions to help them. Dogs and cats are too domesticated and they have a strong dependence to us, so we have to take care of them and this situation. That’s why it´s necessary we take them as pets.

In this country there is a problem with this, there are many people that abandon them. Some years ago I was in an organization that takes care of abandoned animals, and some of them were fierce with other dogs and some people. They sometimes bitted us, I got bitten many times, and not because they wanted attack us, many times they did it playing or it was because they are uncomfortable. In that situation it was necessary muzzle them and isolate them (not all the time, we moved on foot them). In that situations its justifiable do it, when it´s for their own goodness.        

Finally, I don´t liked to be an animal, because all they are dominated by human been, some of them by weaker ways, but if I was, I´d liked to be a predatory sea fish, because they are away from humans and I will probably have few animals that depredate me.

Knowing Cuba

I´d like to visit Cuba to know personally a socialist society. If I did it I wouldn´t in the tourist roll, because it´s different  to see the country in that position than do it as a person who live there.

Cuba has always been a poor country. Imperialist nations has historically subdued this country and it neighbors to it´s economic conditions, keeping them in poverty situation. With revolution Cuba managed get free of this domination, but like world scene is still under capitalist hegemony, and like United Stated has tasked it very much obstacles, it still a satellite country. Nevertheless, it allowed use the people´s production to people´s profit, so, different form countries like Chile, people has all what they need, there are not a capitalist class accumulating excesses that should belong to workers. Wealth is invested in the people. That’s why I liked to visit Cuba, I liked to live in that context out of theory.

I´d like to live there for some time to get the experience out of the myths and lacks of information present in capitalist societies about this country and go back knowing it´s reality by myself. Therefore, I would stay there to work for some time, it could be, for example, around one year. Them, I will go back to Chile, my personal life an loved people is here and this is the society I want to change, even though me and my generation probably won’t be able to do it.

Environment problems

I think it´s important looking after environment, but honestly, I´m not too consequent with this in my individual habits. It´s in part because I think real steps from state. Most of pollution comes from companies, besides this, people will not change their individual convenience by their own enough to change something, especially in a society that promotes individualism.

However, I try to take some steps for this cause like recycle all my bottles, cans, etc. and use bike to move in the city.

I´m animalist, and I subordinate environment problems to this ideology. Ecologist organization sometimes contradict my animalist ideas because they consider preserve the species is more important to respect the dignity and quality of the animal life as a sensible living being –it´s something similar to “prolife” people, who are against abortion bat usually don´t care of life conditions into neoliberalism –. That´s because I wouldn´t join to some typical eco-organizations like Green Peace. There some other organizations that doesn´t have this contradictions. I haven´t join to them just because it´s not my priority. However, I have been in an animalist organization, but I had to leave it because of time problems.

In other fields of this topic, I´m not very active. I have supported some social movements that fight for this, or example I have attend to “No a Altomaipo” actions, because I think that big environment problems come from the freedom that this economic system gives to companies to do what they want and, additionally, the little interest that have State to take care of environment problems. I think that´s the way to progress in this area.

My Future job

When I finish University, I´d like to work in a foundation, NGO, or some similar institution. That´s because I wouldn´t like to work for governmental institutions and specially I wouldn´t like to do market studies or work to companies because of my political conviction. In short, I wouldn´t like to work to capital and the institutions that support the system and its politics.

Instead of that, I´d like to work in a project that make someway a social contribution, like, for example, Fundacion Sol or similar foundations does –that´s just an example to explain the idea, I´m not talking about as important institutions as that–.

I´d like the possibility to work with people with interests similar to mines, that is to say leftist people, with political and social interests. I hope that is not difficult if I work with social scientists. I think it would allow for a good work environment.

I would like to work eight hours, like everybody, and from Monday to Friday. I´d like my job doesn’t have a dress code, like a lot of jobs that are very informal and be able to use clothes and accessories I wanted.

With respect to my salary, I´d like to earn enough to cover my needs: my home, food, health, light, gas, water, Internet, etc. and some recreation, but I´m not interested in have a very big salary. I don´t want to have kids and I know I won´t have them, so my money matter will be less than other people´s.

That is what I´d liked in a job. In brief, be comfortable in it and don´t have moral problems is the most important to me. 

My favorite kinds of music

Since I entered to puberty I disliked romantic or sentimental music. I refereed music with an interesting content for me. It means that I like music with political content. 

It started when I knew Ska-P when I was about thirteen years old, I think it´s around year 2005. It is a Spanish ska-punk band, so they have libertarian lyrics and they have good sounds. It became my favorite group, and I lost interest for not political music. 

With the passing of time I knew more leftist music groups. My mum had a Quilapayún CD and she played it when we travelled in car. It started to like me too, so it was how it started to like me folkloric leftist music, before like other emblematic singers like Víctor Jara or Violeta Parra.

In my teenage I started to listen to other ska and punk bands, like Skalariak or Boikot. But these are not the only music genres I like. I listen others like rap, latin rock, trove, reggae, etc. And lately I even had liked some romantic songs of groups that like me, but the most of time I don’t listen to sentimental music or music with lyrics without content.
